Freescale primarily focuses on VLSI design. It would be a good idea to have sound basics in DCS-I and II and LIC. Also, it would help if you can read books related to VLSI design. Our course doesn't really cover these in details (unless they changed the course since I studied).
It always helps if you also get training in the same field. Try getting training done in some of the Semiconductor companies. It's not so easy though since we only used to have 2 months training program.
